Adios Cancer..... Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

People fight me on this issue DAILY..... I 100% believe that Cancer is caused by the way you eat and your lifestyle habits. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!! Be proactive with your health and body. Be conscious about what you eat so you don't become a statistic. Having seen my Dad suffer and fight through this horrible disease it opened up my eyes to a whole new world and lifestyle change. I am the only person that can control what goes into my body and I want to keep it that way.

Cancer is no funny business. Chances are you or someone you know has struggled with the disease. Sadly we lose about 1500 people every day in the U.S. as a result of it.

While Western medicine works to treat it it obviously falls short of preventing it.

Here are a few ways you can take matters into your own hands.

How Cancer Starts

Cancer starts out as a relatively harmless cluster of microscopic cells. It is only when the body develops new blood vessels that trouble begins. Most of these blood vessels actually about 60000 miles are formed in the womb before you are born. When new vessels form in adulthood they can hijack oxygen and nutrients from other organs causing the tiny cancer cells to multiply 16000 times in only two weeks! It's some pretty scary stuff.

There are certain drugs that prevent the formation of these unwanted blood vessels thereby starving the cancel cells and stopping them from becoming dangerous tumors. For all you science geeks this process is called anti-angiogenesis.

The Power of Diet

Diet accounts for 30 to 35 percent of environmentally caused cancer—exciting news for cancer prevention! Renowned cancer researcher Dr. William Li told attendees at the TED2010 conference: "what we eat is really our chemotherapy."

Dr. Li has found that certain foods can prevent unnecessary blood vessels from forming and many are even better than drugs. These “anti-angeogenic” foods include berries leafy greens such as kale cooked tomatoes olive and grapeseed oils red wine and green tea. Cancer-Fighting Foods

Other cancer-fighting foods that Dr. Li talked about during a recent appearance on the Dr. Oz show are:
  • Papaya – contains the phytochemical lycopene and has been shown to lower the risk of cervical cancer.
  • Cashews –12 per day can reduce the risk of colon cancer.
  • Beets – contain betanins that starve tumors and can prevent cancer cells from dividing.  Recommended amount is ¼ cup a day.
  • Bok Choy - three ½ cup servings a week
  • Strawberries - 1 cup of colorful foods a day
  • Artichokes - 1/4 artichoke heart per day
So stop worrying and get to the grocery store! Eating the right foods could be your best bet in preventing cancer as well as other diseases.

I can't begin to tell you all how important this issue is for me. When I see someone in the lunch room with a McDonald's bag and they pull out their big mac and fries I cringe. Why would you want to put those toxic foods in your body?  If a burger is what you are craving, chose the right burger. Get free range meat, and bake your french fries. I don't eat meat but I understand people get the craving. Be mindful of what foods you are consuming. With just a little extra planning on your part you can set your body up for success. :)
