Out with the old in with the.....

NO!! no more new clothes. This weekend I moved and had a realization that it was time to down size. Majorly downsize. I moved into a place where I was given a very decent size closet and I was desperately trying to squeeze in that long sleeve white shirt that I haven't worn since college. Not to mention that the clothes packed in the closet were not moving an inch.....

I took on the task with some guidance to rid some of the clothes and unnecessary items I had been accruing. I was able to rid 5 bags worth of clothes, 6 trash bags full of "stuff", 100+ plastic hangers, multiple furniture items and an excessive amount of food.

The "ridding" process has been a very fulfilling experience. Although I disposed a lot of items I also have numerous items that I would like to sell. I also took my 5 bags of clothes to work and lets the ladies have at it. It was so nice to see them get excited about new clothes. I know how GREAT it feels to go shopping and that's basically what it was outside in my work parking lot.

I am hoping this shopping obsession ends with this move. The last few years it got a little out of hand. I built a closet that was your classic dream closet. A mini version of the Sex and the City closet and wanted to fill it and make it beautiful. The problem was that it was already full before it was even built.

I am learning that "stuff" is replaceable and there is no reason to hold onto it if you don't plan on using it.
I've never been one to have a New Year's Resolution but I think this year is a perfect year for that. My New Year's resolution is to give more than I get, which means that I have to give away 5 trash bags of clothes before I can even think about getting one new outfit. Also, I am going to make a list of the things that I think I need on a regular basis. If there is 3 check marks next to that item then I am allowed to buy it..... until then it just stays on the list.

Another suggestion I got was to wear my clothes from the right side of my closet to the left. Whatever I "skip" over goes in the give away pile. My goal now is to where everything that is currently in my closet.

I will blog and let you know how it goes......
